‘Laid Bare’ uses a Victorian lens to explore cultural constraints within the contemporary sexual experience. As a living material, latex lends itself to conversations that engage shelf-life, brief encounters and expiration, yet the taboos of past eras continue to live on.

Niki Johnson is an artist, curator and organizer currently living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Johnson received her BFA from the University of Memphis, Tennessee in 2008 and her MA/MFA degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012. Since 2012, Johnson has taught courses at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, curated three national exhibitions including At Your Service, Engendered, and Preservatif, and founded MarKEt, an arts based non-profit that focuses on empowering artists in the Milwaukee area. Her recent solo exhibitions include Place/Replace: The Heart & The Home at New Mexico Highlands University, Eggs Benedict at The Portrait Society Gallery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Behind Closed Doors: An Evening of Rockwellian Taboo at The Wrong Again Gallery, Memphis, Tennessee. Her artwork and curatorial endeavors have received national and international coverage and has been acquired by private collectors and public institutions.
